How do you handle setbacks in your weight loss journey?

Today's topic is handling setbacks on the road to weight loss success.

So tell me ladies in the chat,

How many times have you said something like:

  • It was all going so well!
  • I don't know what happened, it just kinda stopped working!
  • What am I doing wrong?

If you have ever dieted you know so well the lows of weight loss.

Wouldn't it be great if you were done, done with all the weight loss drama already?

Done with feeling and suffering through each setback on your journey?

It's easy to get discouraged when we hit a setback on our weight loss journey.

You might even feel like giving up altogether.

But don't give up!

It's the journey that makes you unstoppable and in today's episode, I am going to talk about why.


So, let's dive in!

Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows that it’s not easy at times. It can feel like downright hard work. But for many, the hardest part of all is dealing with setbacks.

What do I mean by a setback? Well, basically anything that throws you off your weight loss progress is something that is making it harder for you to reach your goal. This might include struggling to find time for a workout, gaining back a few pounds after making progress or, feeling a bit shitty due to the old hormones.

Setbacks are bound to happen from time to time, but how you deal with them can make or break your success.

If you let them get you down and discourage you from continuing on your journey, then this is where the quitting can start to happen. Let that take root and this is where you risk stopping altogether.

But what if you could work on believing that setbacks are simply a normal part of the process, something that you will inevitably encounter along the way, that they are ok and that they won’t hold you back for long?

In fact, what if you actually could believe that you need them?

That they may even help you become stronger and more determined than ever!

The Journey

Think about it for a second. Why do we call weight loss a journey?

A journey could be defined as an eventful or exciting experience. It is also a long trip or voyage, a voyage of exploration.

Let's break that down...

An eventful or exciting experience! Well, it certainly can be that. A lot can happen in life and weight loss whilst you are working on yourself. Whether you make it exciting or not though is going to come down to your thoughts and whether the method you chose is in alignment with you and your life.

A Long trip, a voyage of exploration!

This is definitely something I can get on board with... pun totally intended!

Weight loss is definitely not an overnight success and there is no one right way to do it.

There are countless twists and turns along the way, and it can feel tough as you navigate them all.

But it is in those twists and turns that you make and in the perseverance that you can become unstoppable. The key is learning how to persevere even when it can feel like ass! The key is to find more joy in those twists and turns, to embrace the fact it is a journey, that you have things to learn and explorations to take that can make you unstoppable.

What if your weight loss journey could give you such self-belief and confidence you feel like you can take on the world?

It may sound unlikely now but it is what happened to me!

Ok maybe I couldn't literally take on the world but it certainly means the world to me.

I had tried so many diets, it felt like every possible weight loss method and nothing worked for me. I was lost, directionless and felt like I had failed at life.

I wished for a different life, to feel like I was clear on my direction, happy and confident in myself.

But the truth is, that life didn't happen until I stepped into acceptance. I stopped fighting with reality and working with it and in doing so started to feel more in control of my own journey.

So really, it was only when I embraced the journey that things started to change for me. When I stopped focusing on the end goal and started to enjoy the process instead.

And that's why setbacks don't have to hold us back.

We simply learn how to dust ourselves off, learn from our mistakes and continue moving forward.

The key is to stay focused on your process and keep your future self in mind.

Process

The process is queen! The process is where the action happens. Action is what builds momentum. Momentum is what builds motivation.

In the Triple-A-Way, it is about finding a process that works for you, a process that fits your life and you can do it with ease. It is why we work on finding the balance in life and weight loss so you can navigate the twists and turns that you do by learning simple tools and techniques that can change how you show up for your life, your weight loss and yourself.

So what does focusing on the process and acceptance really mean?

It means focusing on the steps you are taking, on what you can control and not worrying about the things you can't.

It means breaking down goals into smaller, more manageable tasks you can actually do by setting realistic expectations for yourself.

It means finding a way to stay focused on the journey and being accountable.

When you focus on the process, you are able to take things one step at a time and enjoy the journey along the way.

And that is what will help you to achieve your goals in the end.

Stepping into your future self

When my members start the first module is on initial awareness. You have to know where you are now and where you want to be and then you can figure out the process...the journey in between.

How we do this though is not by setting a weight loss goal, an arbitrary number to lose though it is helpful to have a rough idea of what you aim for. We focus more on the future self.

Who is the woman you want to be, who do you want to become and wny.

We get really clear on this.

Why?

Because when you are feeling discouraged, when you feel like hope is lost, she is the person you can turn to.

Your future self is you at the end of your journey, she is strong, determined and knows exactly what she wants.

She lives inside you right now already you just have to learn to tap into her.

I tap into my future self all the time, she is like your best friend, your guardian angel and biggest cheerleader all in one.

If you think about yourself now and think about what you would go back and say to your younger self it is like trying to tap into this abundant source of wisdom to draw from. How different could life have been had you had your current self guiding you through with all the life wisdom you have accumulated so far. Just think how much you will know in 5, 10, 15 years' time.
