Hello Hello Hello and Welcome to episode number 64 of the Wellness 4 Women Show
This week I was talking to someone about finding more joy in life, as an individual, as a couple and as a family and it sparked inspiration for the show.
My aim for those who join the Wellness 4 Women Backstage Pass Membership is that they find more joy in the 'weight loss' process. In fact, there is a whole section in there called 'soul food' because feeding your soul, finding joy and purpose are just as important as feeding your body.
Too often, the beliefs we hold about 'weight loss' are that it is a chore or a punishment, and we forget that joy and happiness should also be a part of the journey. This can often stop women from starting their journey or it can lead to struggling along the way.
By exploring our relationship with joy, we can find more freedom and fulfilment in the weight loss process and I want to talk about that today.
As usual, let me know what your takeaways are from this episode in the free Facebook group or if you are a member the Members support group? Leave a #gem plus your comment. Likewise got a question the groups are the place to be for community and support.
Super quick intro, as usual, I am Faye Casement. I am a Certified Life Coach and I want to help you ditch diet drama and find more joy in the weight loss process with my simple food & life freedom method the Triple-A-Way™️ because you deserve to feel amazing inside and out.
Back to joy.
Joy is more than just happiness and fun though they are part of it - it's a deep sense of contentment and fulfilment that comes from within. It can come when you do something that aligns with your purpose, values, wants, needs and desires.
Joy fits perfectly when working on life & 'weight loss' with love. This is why I talk about ditching diet drama and finding more joy.
Joy is typically a positive feel-good emotion but what does joy mean to you? This is the key thing here.
What brings me true joy and what brings you joy will be too completely different things.
We will have different likes, tastes, dreams and aspirations and that is ok.
For me, joy is working on this show and helping my members. It is seeing my daughter grow into the amazing young woman she is. It is doing jobs well. It is learning. Growing and striving to become the most aligned version of me I can be.
Tell me in the chat if you are watching on video are you clear on what brings you joy?
I watched someone have coaching once joy once. They were struggling to identify what would make them happy. You might think this is easy or you may struggle. It does not mean you are not happy. It just means there are more layers to figure out and no one can do it for you.
What do you really want? What would make you really happy? What would make you feel good in your core? What are your values? What do you think is your purpose? Working on all of these will bring you different insights that you can then step into action on to bring yourself more joy.
It's the same with 'weight loss'. We have had years of gathering shoulds and shoulds not about losing weight and these usually leave us feeling confused, frustrated and restricted, what is the point of following a 'diet' if it is not going to bring you joy long terms? How will you sustain this if it sucks?
You likely won't and this then takes us back into the yo-yo loop all the time fueling the old beliefs that we are not good enough, that we can't 'lose weight' and that 'weight loss' is hard. Which does not have to be true.
If you had to guess... what do you think is holding you back from finding more joy in your 'weight loss' or wellness?
Feels ironic that I am talking about joy today after having 2 days where I was really struggling to find my joy.
For me the barrier was my hormones.
But maybe if you are working on 'weight loss' you are not seeing the results you think you should be happening?
Maybe you are talking down to yourself every time you have an off plan eat or eat too much?
Maybe you do not feel supported fully in your journey?
Maybe you feel deprived?
Maybe you feel it impacts your social life or love life even?
Maybe it feels like a chore?
Maybe you feel stressed about your life or 'weight loss'?
Maybe you feel out of sync or alignment?
Whatever it is this is where the work lies.
If you think you are not good enough as you have not lost weight.
That you are a failure for eating off plan
Resentful that others are not supporting your efforts
You are not planning foods you love
You are saying no to social events
Don't want to be doing the work
And feel overwhelmed by the sheer weight and notion of it all.
You will not feel joyful.
You will not be enjoying the process.
You will be trying to go through the motions. Trying yourbest to do all the things you should be doing be not really sure why it just isn't happening.
There are many ways to make your weight loss journey more joyful.
Even today I posted before going live on my Facebook wall to offer a game of hydration bingo for anyone watching live. Every time I said the word joy have to drink. Why not everytime you hear me say 'weight loss' in future episode you take a sip.
Every time you go to the loo say 7 things you love about you day. For some of us that could be a lot of likes by the end of the day... especially if you are taking my water challenge... ha ha ha
Getting a little deeper though my aim is to help my members from the get-go to work on identifying what it is they want and who they want to be as this is where joy lies in who you want to be.
We don't just set an arbitrary weight figure on the scale to lose or aim for the first 10%, hell you do not even have to be working on 'weight loss' if you don't want to be this is about healing your relationship with food at your core.
There is a workbook in the membership called 'Finding Freedom' which starts the process as they identify where they are, they then identify where they want to be by connecting with their 'Future Self' and then they 'Plot Their Course'.
'Weight loss' takes time, it is about working on shifting old beliefs, habits, and patterns that did not work and bringing in new ones. In doing so you change your beliefs.
I used to think 'weight loss' was hard, that I would never 'lose weight' as it was 'in my genes', that 'weight loss' was boring and that I was not good enough because of my body and how I looked. My journey changed all of that and now I am giving you the tools to do the same.
I want to help you to super slueth your weight loss. You are in control now. You are the one making the 'rules' so to speak. You are the one who has control of their destiny as you become the heroine of your own story.
How does your super hero self find more joy in the weight loss process?
How does she show her badassery on a daily basis?
How does she bring joy to her day even if the shit is hitting the fan?
How does she set goals that not only make her feel good but bring joy and delight?
These are the questions you need to explore and answer for yourself. That way you can stay motivated, enjoy the process, build momentum and reach your goals. When you do this, you will feel liberated and empowered.
And as you become the hero of your own story, you can transform your life in ways that were previously unimaginable!
You can be liberated from the illusion of 'weight loss' being hard and punishing - instead, it can become a joyous process full of self-care, self-love, self-appreciation, self- respect, and ultimately self-mastery.
So, if you are ready to add love to your 'weight loss' journey, here are some things that could help:
1. Focus on Self-Care - Treat yourself like the VIP you are! Take time out for yourself each day to do something that brings you happiness.
2. Create goals that bring you joy: Set goals that bring you joy rather than ones that are focused on punishing yourself. I recommend working on process over outcome goals as they will give you the quickest wins.
3. Nourish your body: Explore foods you love and that make your body feel good.
4. Be curious - like the super sleuthing 'weight loss' detective that you are curiosity is your superpower. Figure out what works and does not work for you.
5. Find your tribe - I'd love for you to join the membership of course, but if you are not feeling it yet still find your people. Find people who bring you up, who encourage you, who drive you forward, and who genuinely walk alongside you daily in the same/similar way as we would in the membership.
6. Experiment - Try new things, step a toe out of your comfort zone every now and again to shake things up. Not only will it avoid boredom and stagnation but who knows what you may find there!
7. Work on your mindset - Joy is an emotion. Your emotions come from your thoughts and beliefs.
8. If you want more joy - create it! You are the one in control. You can find flow, joy and the gift in any moment no matter how tough it may seem at the time.
There is a famous quote "I think, therefore I am" by philosopher René Descartes in the context of what I have covered today it can serve as a a reminder to you that your thoughts and beliefs about yourselves and the journey can have a significant impact on your experience.
If you think negatively aka have limiting beliefs, it can be a challenge to find joy in the process.
On the other hand, if you work on having a positive mindset and learn to trust and believe in yourselves, you will be more likely to find joy and satisfaction in the journey.
In conclusion, weight loss can be a liberating and fulfilling journey when approached with love. By focusing on self-care activities, setting achievable goals that bring joy, nourishing your body with nutritious foods, finding your tribe to provide motivation and support, experimenting with new ideas and working on mindset shifts to maintain a positive attitude, you can find food and life freedom and more joy.
OK, that's it, folks.
