Hello Hello Hello and Welcome to episode number 56 of the Wellness 4 Women Show

The Best Plan For Weight Loss

Weight loss is a journey that people often say needs dedication and discipline, but doesn’t this sound daunting? I covered this a little last week. If you go into your weight loss saying it is going to be hard, how you have to be strong, you just have to eat less etc how does it make you feel? Does this feel like it is coming from a place of self-love?

How then does your weight loss and your food plan make you feel?

I asked in the Wellness 4 Women Group this week as well as around the internet about what feelings came up, it was fear, anxiety, doubt, restricted, and doubt. There was one who said she was excited but she was a PT.

With the right plan in place, that suits you and your life you can make progress towards your goals without feeling restricted or miserable you can feel free. You can feel motivated, desire, excitement even.

In today's episode, I want to dive into what the best plan is for weight loss.

Super quick intro as usual for those new to my world, I am Faye Casement. Having lost over 70lbs, I believe life and sustainable weight loss go together like a jigsaw. You cannot work on one without factoring in the other. You are unique and so deserve a unique method and I can help you build it, want to know how? So back to planning for weight loss.

There are bazillion diet options and ways to plan out there. It can feel really overwhelming. Each method saying pick me... no pick me I am the best... no me!

AAAAAGGGGH

The diet industry creates so much drama before you even start!

So what is the best plan?

Stay tuned and I will tell you.

Weight Loss, the Diet Industry & Drama Oh My!

Weight loss through dieting alone is not a cure. It is not a cure for weight management and it doesn't fix your relationship with food, life or yourself in the process.

The one thing the diet industry really doesn't make very clear (I checked the small print🤣) is that when you get to goal you can't just quit.

You have to maintain.

You may be thinking well duh, Faye yeah I have heard of maintenance.

But have you really thought about what that entails?

I hadn't in my previous diet attempts, hadn't really factored it for this one either, even though I thought I had I was more focused on when the next lb was coming off.

This is fine of course in one sense because looking at your final goal can be a little overwhelming at times but actually, you do need to think about this at the start when you are picking your method.

You can't just get to your goal weight and stop as you will regain. You have to keep doing the same program usually over and over on loop. It really does need to become the possibly cliched 'lifestyle'.

This is the problem I see all the time.

Women picking restrictive methods they do not really like and can’t sustain.

Note I said sustain. Sustaining does not mean perfection.

I get it, I get the desperation to lose the weight I do but what happens when you stop keto, stop counting points, stop fasting, stop eating dry crackers and spreadable cheese? Because you don't really like them? You regain. All 'diets' and the 'diet industry' rely on this.

Drama, drama, drama!

So not only are you knuckling your way day to day as it is just to lose that lb but then you are then trapped doing something you perhaps will not like and or something that may not suit you and your season of life in a few years time.

This is the thing also.

Our bodies change.

Our lives change.

I have had a load of conversations with women who said they lost weight easily when they were younger, before kids, before menopause etc. That a certain plan used to work well and now it doesn't etc.

It is tempting to think you are broken, that you cannot lose weight, that weight loss is hard or you may even think I it is possible but maybe just maybe it is not you, that is the issue but the plan you are using. Maybe the plan just does not suit you.

At the end of the day we do the things we like to do as a general rule of thumb and resist the things we don’t.

Sometimes this is conscious and some not so.

I was talking to members at the weekend about this.

We know what is so called ‘good’ for us. Hell, we even enjoy doing the exercise or eating a certain way but yet sometimes our brains are like… nope not today!

The key… notice when it is happening and figuring out where the resistance comes from.

So What is the Best Plan for Weight Loss?

It's simple...

You may actually hate me it's so obvious!

It is the one you do.

The one you enjoy

The one you feel can be used and that can be adapted to fit you for the rest of your life.

This is why I created the podcast and The Wellness 4 Women Group.

I want to shout this from the rooftops that restrictive, boring, miserable diet plans are methods are out!

DITCH DIET DRAMA - FIND MORE JOY

More joy usually means more motivation and momentum.

More motivation and momentum - better results.

A method you love and can use for life no more yo-yoing on and off the keto, the slimming world, the weight watchers etc because you don't really like it.

How does that sound to you?

For me it brought freedom.

Freedom to choose my destiny.

Freedom to eat all foods without feeling guilt, shame or restricted.

Freedom to the new found joy and happiness to improve other areas of my life.

Where is it?

Where is it I hear you cry. How do I find this amazing method. How will I know which out of the gazillion diets it is.

Again the answer is simple.

You build it.

There is not a pre-packed cookie-cutter diet out there that will fit you mind, body, and soul you have to build it.

Build it so it fits you.

And it is sooo easy when you know how.

This is what I teach in my Triple-A-Way™️ Food Freedom Method. 4 easy daily steps to find food freedom and weight loss. Want to hear the others you’ll need to head to episode xxxx

The first of those 4 steps is realistic planning.

Set yourself up daily with a plan.

Tell your brain.

Hey brain we are doing this today.

Your brain will love it.

It loves structure and order and clarity.

Doing it daily means you can adapt to life and reduce the overwhelm. Doesn't mean you can't weekly plan if you like but you want to tweak as you go.

Sometimes life also has other plans for you so you also need to learn how to pivot like a motherchucker and know that it is ok.

This is what I help ladies with. How to show up for you, your life and your weight loss when the rubber meets the road.

Keep The Journey Simple

The key to the daily realistic plan is the word realistic!

Are you really able to commit to cooking that meal after a busy day at work? Will you really want the salad after the meeting with the boss.

Often when we ‘diet’ we end up with a list of foods we can and cannot have. A set of rules around how we SHOULD move our bodies.

So when it comes to making plans for weight loss bring all of those to the table regardless of whether we want them, like them or feel like them.

The starting point often is the pedestal answer. The perfectly curated meal or movement regime that will lead to weight loss and we plan than.

What happens then usually feeling restricted as you have not planned it from a place of where you are or love but from the land of should, must, need to and have too.

The trick.

Ask yourself what do you want to eat and do today?

Does that fit your health and well-being aims? yes have at it.

If not, the 2nd question.

How could I level that up today?

You are building buy-in to your plan.

You are building motivation.

You are building a way to live that you can sustain.

You are pushing yourself still by setting mini boundaries as you go.

In my membership, I have loads of ideas about how you can level up and keep weight loss easy.

So what's the catch?

There is no catch.

There are however pitfalls to watch out for.

• After years of dieting your may try to treat the 4 daily steps as 'another set or rules' to beat yourself with. Self-judgment is rife in all of us so we need to work on that .

• Your expectations may still not realistic. Sometimes you may be stretching yourself too far but you can figure it out by assessing your day and by using mindset work to keep you from being disheartened.

• You become frustrated and disappointed in your lack of progress. No matter what weight loss method you chose there will be stalls, gains and plateaues this is the life of someone working on weight loss. We have ways to overcome them. See episode xxx for a basic overview.

• You may overthink it. If you find yourself thinking too hard about your plan you are likely applying some food judgments. Go back to basics what do you want to eat? How can you level it up?

• Life drama. Sometimes life's gets in the way of what you would like to do for your health. Let's figure that out too and find a way.
